Lead Filter Program
The City has implemented a Lead Filter Program aimed at protecting the vulnerable population from the ill-health effects of lead in tap water. The City is offering subsidized filtration systems and replacement cartridges that are NSF-053 approved specifically for lead reduction.
To be eligible, you must have a confirmed private lead water service pipe and at least one member of the vulnerable population must reside in the household for at least 6 months of the calendar year. The vulnerable population includes expecting mothers and children under the age of 6 years old.
Water filters are only a temporary measure to reduce lead levels in tap water and the City of Brantford and Brant County’s Medical Officer of Health strongly recommend that property owners should replace their lead water service pipes as the preferred and more permanent solution.
